Welcome to the Irish Child & Family Institute
An independent agency offering Independent Child Welfare and Social Work assessments including Harmful Sexual Behaviour Risk Assessments & broad spectrum Mental Health evaluations
The Irish Child & Family Institute (ICFI) was established by Kieran McGrath with the goal of providing independent child welfare and social work services to a variety of statutory and non-statutory organisations. Since 2006 it has been contracted by Tusla, the Health Service Executive, An Garda Siochána, the State Claims Agency, the Legal Aid Board, CORU and a variety of religious authorities, various NGOs and multiple independent law firms.
Outside of Ireland it has been collaborating with the AIM PROJECT in Manchester since 2007. In Spain it has provided services to the ATURA’T project under the auspices of the autonomous government of the Balearic Islands since 2008 and, since 2018, to the psycho-social training department of the Department of Justice in Catalonia, as well as various Spanish NGOs. In 2020 it started collaborating with the Council of Europe in Moldova.
Much of the work done by ICFI for the above agencies has been in the area of Child Protection and Safeguarding, particularly in the area of sexual abuse, including the provision of Risk Assessments using AIM3, STABLE & ACUTE (2007), and consultation regarding complex cases (including fire-settting risk assessments), as well as independent reports for cases before the courts and a wide variety of training in those areas listed above.

-

In providing these services ICFI aspires not only to provide resources to a diverse range of child welfare organisations and their clients, but also to offer services that can reduce the conflict which is so frequently generated in adversarial legal proceedings, by providing objective, independent measures that Courts can rely on to make better decisions in complex child welfare cases. Less conflict also reduces stress for families and can also lower legal costs for litigants.
